Tokyo Toy Shops – 3 of 4 : Ueno

P1010650.jpg

One of the more impressive toy stores is 7 floors high Yamashiroya. The store is home to carries all sorts of toys and is one of few places that has a good collection of 12 inch figures. Even though they are a bit more expensive than what you can find in Singapore (as seen in the Indy pic below), there is a wide selection of lose clothing, weapons, etc. that is hard to find in SG.

Jan 2010 UPDATE: Updates in Blue. Check the pics out below!

The store also has a wide collection of Star Wars as well. Especially the one of a kinda Disney Star Wars figures!

P1010666.JPG P1010667.JPG P1010668.JPG P1010669.JPG P1010664.JPG

Not forgetting the large collection of Gundam and Macross.

P1010661.jpg P1010662.jpg

The store is a good place to check out and they have a huge variety of toys.

P1010660.JPG P1010663.JPG  P1010665.JPG

Things haven’t changed much since I was last here. The variety of toys available continues to excite me. Below are some of the latest pics I took.

So how do you get there from Ueno JR Station? Well exit from the Central Gate exit. This is also where the Ueno Hard Rock Cafe can be found. Once you exit walk out and in front across the road should be the building in front of you to the right side!

Tokyo – Day 4 of 9 : Disneyland

P1010490.JPG

A super early start (6 am) to get to Disneyland and queue to get in.

P1010429.JPG

Wondering about how long the queues were? Well the shot above is taken from the queue waiting to get into the park. The queue in front of me is the queue waiting to get the park tickets. And remember, this is 7am, the park opens at 8am!

P1010430.JPG

Now this is the queue waiting to get in. If you can squint your eyes, up infront are the gates to enter the park. Yes, I wasn’t very near. lol

P1010434.JPG

And we’re in!! Cinderella’s castle in the distance.

P1010624.JPG  P1010460.JPG P1010443.JPG

Disneyland has some great rides, but some of the less popular ones are actually the more scenic and serene rides. Above pics are from Mark Twain’s Riverboat ride. You can see red indians all around the riverside. Spot them!

P1010615.JPG

Another fun ride was the Western River Railroad ride. They used a real steam engine train!

P1010480.JPG P1010481.jpg P1010484.JPG

Above is the Swiss Family Treehouse. It was amazing how they built the whole thing from scratch with all the detail! It looked like I was in a real treehouse! The view from the top was amazing as well.

P1010499.JPG P1010600.JPG

One of my memories from Disneyland & Disneyworld was It’s A Small World. A simple but fun ride overall. It’s nice to see how they recreated kids from all over the world.

P1010503.JPG P1010530.JPG P1010538.JPG P1010545.JPG

One of the main rides you have to try is Pooh’s Hunny Hunt. It’s one of the most popular ride for a reason, the movement of the ride is largely random, giving you a different experience every time! So make this one of the first rides you aim for.

P1010612.JPG

A popular ride in all the Disneylands world wide is Space Mountain. It’s adrenaline pumping and a fun roller-coaster ride,,,, in the dark. heh

P1010635.JPG P1010643.JPG

Pirates of the Caribbean was one of the main rides in Disneyland when it first opened years ago, but it has since been relegated. Still, it is a fun ride and with the addition of the movie cast, it gives an additional familiarity.

P1010516.JPG P1010518.JPG P1010526.JPG P1010527.jpg

Disneyland is not all about rides, some areas have the most imaginative architecture and decor. Above is ToonTown where zany and crazy things happen all the time. For some reason I can’t lift those barbells! ??!

P1010546.JPG P1010502.JPG P1010438.JPG P1010549.JPG P1010489.JPG

Some other cool things were simple stuff like the Pooh’s shop. It felt like you were in Pooh’s house. The restroom signs were pretty cute as well. Splash Mountain was pretty spectacular in it’s design. And being spring, the flowers all around the park were in full bloom and just added to the romance of the place. Even the ducks couldn’t resist! awwww

P1010553.JPG P1010555.JPG P1010567.JPG P1010579.JPG P1010582.JPG

Of course no visit to Disneyland would be complete without a parade. We were lucky to catch the special 25th Anniversary celebrations in the park which would end early April. All the big stars were present at the parade. Including a few Pixar characters.

A visit to Disneyland is always one of the highlights of any trip. The park is truly a special and happy place to visit.

Tokyo Toy Haul!

The last time I went to Tokyo, I came back with only 1 toy, a Transformers Binaltech 01. Not because I didn’t want to get more, but just that I procrastinated. This trip, I told myself to get stuff only if they are cheaper or are rare/hard to find in Singapore. And I ended up getting a whole lot of stuff! I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I’ll also be posting more about where to find the good stuff in Tokyo and directions to them in the next few days! Watch for it!

Tokyo – Day 3 of 9 : DisneySEA, Akihabara

  P1010281.JPG

I’m finally back in Singapore and I thought I’ll continue to post pics of my Tokyo trip.

P1010242.JPG

We had to wake up extra early in order to catch the bus to DisneySEA. It has been quite some time since Jas and me visited a Disney park and we were both pretty excited. DisneySEA is the newest addition to Tokyo Disney parks and it is the only one of it’s kind worldwide. The entrance to the park was packed to the max and as soon as the gates opened, the Japanese visitors literally started running to the various rides to queue. The pic above shows the massive crowd entering DisneySEA.

P1010243.JPG

The DisneySEA worlds are all themed after various aquatic lands. In the middle of the park is the huge volcano.

P1010277.JPGP1010352.JPG P1010292.JPG  P1010372.JPG

You can see how much effort went into designing the park when you walk around. From the top two pics, the Arabian Coast, Mediterranean Harbour and Mermaid Lagoon. Mermaid Lagoon was a spectacle to behold. You literally felt that you were underwater.

P1010314.JPG P1010319.JPG

They even had this real cruise chip, the SS Columbia which was docked in American Waterfront. Managed to take some pics on the ship.

P1010333.JPG P1010351.JPG P1010381.JPG

What I really liked was how each of the Disney shops kept to the theme of the various lands. From the top, American Waterfront, Arabian Coast and Mermaid Lagoon.

P1010360.JPG P1010361.JPG

Of course any trip to a Disney park would not be complete without the rides. And we managed to catch the main ones. The Indiana Jones Adventure was the main attraction with queues up to over 3 hrs with the Fastpass ticketing running out before noon.

P1010367.JPG P1010368.jpg

Though even with the queues, the rides were worth waiting for and a whole lot of fun!

P1010398.jpg P1010405.jpg

The landscaping of the park was also one to note with beautiful Tulips, Sun Flowers, etc. blooming here and there.

P1010390.JPG P1010393.JPG

On the whole, DisneySEA was heaps of fun. A bit more adult oriented, but still good for the whole family!

P1010412.JPG

After DisneySEA, we had a bit of time for my first of 3 visits to Akihabara, famous for it’s electronics and toys

P1010414.JPG

Yes I was more excited about the toys, but I’ll leave that to another post soon.

P1010425.JPG

We ended our day with some Krispy Kreme that was kinda opposite our hotel. There were queues for the donuts 2 years ago when I last visited, and there are still queues after all this time. Even in the freezing cold (8 degrees) of the nite! I was happy that they gave out fresh hot donuts while we waited in the queue. Goooo customer service!

P1010427.JPG P1010426.JPG

Nothing better than watching the donuts that you are about to buy come straight out of the production line. yumm
