Got my iPad and case this morning. It’s a surprise to see how small it really is. Not bad small, but from the pics on the internet, I just thought it would be bigger. The iPad is really a beauty, the screen’s rich colours really stand out. The weight isn’t an issue for me, even if some reviewers thought it was a tad bit heavy. It’s much lighter than any other similar device out there.

I’ve tested out a few apps and I’m pretty impressed. The iBook and Amazon Kindle apps two which I will definitely use. I’ve bought a few ebooks from both stores already and I can see myself reading more because of the iPad. In terms of the look and feel of ebooks, the iBook app is much better than compared with the Kindle app.

Comics is another medium which I will be using the iPad for. The Marvel app is really cool. I also got another app from the App store which allows me to upload my collection of eComics. The iPad is really the next big thing for comics. It’s perfect just scrolling thru the pages and zooming in and out with just a flick of the fingers.

Sure, there are some aspects of the iPad which can definately be improved, and I’m sure the new iPhone OS 4 being announced tonight will fix some of those. But even then, the iPad is an excellent device and it really does open up a whole new way of consuming media. I also think it’s the best device for my mom to use to check her email and do some basic surfing.

Sure, many of us are skeptical of the iPad’s future success. But I feel that it will change the way we look and consume media. Gizmodo.com has a commentary that just hits it right on the nail. Check it out!

The Apple iPad has been officially announced. It looks just like a huge iPhone and it’s freakin thin! Though the name could be better.

The design doesn’t look that bad, but I was hoping for something sexier and sleeker. And while the features of the iPad isn’t revolutionary, I do believe it is ‘game changing’. It brings together technologies and features, and seamlessly blends them together in one great device. Something that no other tablet device before has done. The new iBook store opens up ebooks to the mass market as well. I’ve thought about getting a Kindle or similar device, but they did not provide a multimedia experience that i wanted in a device.

The iPad allows for a new take on portability and will definitely give people something to think about when considering a netbook. I used a netbook for a short period of time, and ASUS Eee PC 1005, and while it wasn’t too shabby, it just wasn’t as user friendly for a small portable device. The Atom processor was also laggy when playing certain Hi-Def videos and programs. And from initial first hand reviews of the iPad, it’s blistering fast!

So will I get an iPad when it finally comes out in SG? I can definitely see myself getting one. Though looking at my media usage patterns, I don’t know if I will use it all that much. And it depends on how much it will be sold for in SG and what contracts/plans I will have to sign on to, if any.

I am pretty sold on the device as a whole and I do like the Apple designed case that you can purchase along with the iPad. Will have to wait and see what the local developments are.

Tonight is the night. At about 1 – 2 am, Apple should be announcing their new product. Like most of their recent products, it should be sexy and possibly game changing.

I’m freaking excited and will most probably be one of the suckers getting the Tablet. heh,, Follow the announcements here.

Ok,, I’m an apple fanboy, even if the only Apple products I own is a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 3GS, the only reason by my main Desktop is not a mac, well it’s cause the PC still is king for games. I found this link on Gizmodo that’s hilarious. It’s funny reading quotes slamming the iPhone when it was first announced 2 years back.

The iPhone has been an amazing success over the pass few years. And thats what I like about Apple, it’s a company that designs and builds products ‘they’ would like to own, revolutionising the industry and media sphere as they release stuff.

I think the real point here is, even though these guys knew Apple was a threat to their space but wouldn’t admit it publicly (of course), none of them could have foreseen the barnstorming success that the iPhone is today. Apple didn’t just change the smartphone industry, it drastically changed 3rd party app development, the music and movie industries, and now, even before the iTablet is a confirmed reality, the magazine industry is bending over backwards and spending millions to be ready for an unconfirmed, potentially nonexistent product. In a nutshell, the entire media world is begging to be Steve Job’s bitch.

Now THAT’s what I call running a tech company.

Most people would remember the original iMac and the Think Different campaign from Apple many years ago. It was the advertising campaign and product that made Apple the company it is today. I just read an insightful interview with Ken Segall, the guy who helped come up with the Think Different campaign and named the iMac. He was working at TBWA\Chiat\Day, the ad agency that come up with many wonderful Apple ads, and still does today.

It’s amazing how Apple keeps coming up with industry changing products. And Ken Segalls quote at the end of the article said it best.

Segall was still consulting for Apple until a couple of years ago when he started working for Dell.

“Dell and Apple: It’s night and day,” Segall says. “It’s a transactional world Dell lives in. It’s all about numbers. Everything they say about Apple making products for themselves is true. Apple — it’s about changing the world. For everyone else, it’s about the money.”

Woot, I’m on Snow Leopard and loving it. I initially installed the RTM version as an update to Leopard on my Macbook Pro. But after getting the proper package, I decided to do a clean install.

The new OSX is pretty good. No big fancy changes, but heaps of great smaller changes internally. I can definitely feel the snappier responses. Finder is especially quicker. Loving it!
