We visited the Kyoto Lantern Festival the other evening. As the weather was a tad bit unbearable, we decided to come back another evening.
There were many food stalls around selling fave Jap snacks. Reminded me of our regional street foods. Some quite similar, like the Japanese sausages.
The streets were packed to the max with Japanese and tourists. Stores were open and there was a hive of activity. This is unusual for Kyoto as most stores in the old district close early and it can be pretty dark and quiet.
It is quite a long walk through the many streets. But there are lots to see, do and eat. It can be quite romantic as well
Even the temples along the way were lighted up, making for some spectacular views and shots.

There were also some performances along the way. Like some school kids singing. There were supposed to be geisha’s as well. But we couldn’t find them. It was a fun evening walking around and soaking up the atmosphere. Do plan your trip around the annual festival, as it really brings about a different atmosphere to your normal Kyoto trip.
